Six things to watch when a beautician works in your home — and what a professional will do without being asked.
The advantage of a home appointment is that you can see everything. A salon does its preparation in a back room; here it happens in front of you. Use that.
1. The wax tin should be opened in front of you
Not carried in already open. A sealed tin per appointment is the standard, and it is visible.
2. No double-dipping
A spatula that has touched your skin should never go back into the wax. This is the single most important thing on the list and the easiest to spot. A professional uses a fresh spatula per pass without being asked.
3. Thread is single-use
For threading, the thread is cut fresh at the start of your appointment and discarded after. There is no version of this where thread is reused.
4. Product should be in date, and you should be able to see it
Facial and clean-up products should be sealed at the start and have a legible expiry. Decanted product in an unmarked pot is a reasonable thing to decline.
5. Gloves for extraction
Blackhead extraction is the step where gloves are not optional.
6. Tools arrive clean and leave with the beautician
Nothing reusable should be used on you that has not been sterilised between clients — and nothing should be left behind in your bathroom.
